Stuart Bower (Conductor)

Stuart is no stranger to odd musical pursuits … he is addicted to blowing down long tubes, playing the serpent and the alphorn. Hmm – I think we will get along fine.

Stuart’s provenance as an accomplished musician is impressive. At 15 he was a member of National Youth Orchestra, going on to study horn at the Royal College of Music. He was a founder member of Opera North and freelanced with leading orchestras including the Halle and BBC Philharmonic. He has taught in schools, examined for Trinity College and adjudicated at major music festivals in UK and South Africa.

In August 2015 he moved to India to take up the post of Head of Instrumental Studies at India’s No.1
International School: Good Shepherd international School, Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu. From there went on to head the music department at one of East Africa’s leading international schools: Green Hills Academy, Kigali, Rwanda in 2017.

We caught up with him in Rwanda to ask if he might be interested in leading Banding Together in 2020. He replied, if we could cope with “zany”, he’d be delighted. We can do zany. Yes … we will get along just fine!    Click here for Fun BrassProFundo
